A cup of flour and a cup of sugar do not weigh the same. Choose the ingredient and its preparation, then enter a quantity in US cups, grams or weight ounces.
These are ingredient-specific kitchen estimates, not exact densities. Use the weight stated in your recipe when available. Packing, grinding, moisture and brand can change the amount in a cup. A US cup is not a 250 ml metric cup or an ordinary drinking mug.
How to convert cups to grams
Grams = US cups × reference grams per cup for the chosen ingredient. Cups = grams ÷ reference grams per cup. Weight ounces = grams ÷ 28.349523125; grams = ounces × 28.349523125. Calculations retain precision internally and display up to three decimal places.
The reference chart sometimes gives a smaller portion. We divide its grams by its cup fraction before calculating. For honey, 1 tablespoon is 1/16 US cup. The displayed ounces are mass (oz), not fluid ounces (fl oz).
Two worked examples
1½ cups of all-purpose flour: 1.5 × 120 = 180 g, approximately 6.349 oz. This applies to the flour reference here; do not substitute a sugar value.
113 g of butter: the source gives 113 g per ½ cup, so a full cup is 226 g. 113 ÷ 226 = 0.5 cup, approximately 3.986 oz. The source values are already rounded; conversion does not make them exact.

Questions and answers
How many grams are in one cup?
There is no single answer for every food. This table uses 120 g for all-purpose flour and 198 g for white granulated sugar per US cup. Select the ingredient first.
Can I convert grams back to cups?
Yes. Select grams as the input unit. The calculator divides by the reference weight for your ingredient and also shows weight ounces.
Does packed brown sugar use the same value as loose sugar?
No. The brown sugar entry is packed, while raisins are loose. Use the preparation in the ingredient name; the table cannot estimate a different packing method.
Can I use a 250 ml metric cup?
Do not use these US-cup references unchanged for a metric cup or a drinking mug. Weigh the recipe amount instead.
Are ounces the same as fluid ounces?
No. An ounce here measures mass. A fluid ounce measures volume and is not a replacement for the displayed weight.
Why can a recipe give a different number?
Ingredients and filling methods vary, and reference weights are rounded. If the recipe provides grams, follow that value instead of replacing it with this estimate.
